In the 30s, 40s and 50s farmers had to rent sacks to bring their produce to market as sacks were very scarce and expensive.

Hired sacks were mended and reused many times, traveling around the world on ships with different products.

Discarded flour bags were often bleached and remade into clothes and other useful items.
